Crime and Punishment tells the story of Rodion Raskolnikov, a poor former student living in St. Petersburg. He believes that some people are extraordinary and have the right to commit crimes for a greater good. To test his theory, he murders an old pawnbroker. After the crime, Raskolnikov is overwhelmed by guilt, fear, and paranoia. He struggles mentally and emotionally, even though he tries to justify his actions. A kind and humble woman named Sonia becomes an important influence in his life, encouraging him to confess and seek redemption.
